Inspired by my trip to France during the fall of 2023, this book explores how translation of language can change its meaning. The text comes from the blog post on Parisian Fields, My Life in France, written by Philippa Campsie. She describes her time abroad in France and how she became more comfortable with the language over time. The text is first presented in its original language, English, and then is translated to French. On the following spread, the text is then translated back to English again, with callouts explaining how certain key vocabulary words have changed in meaning through the translation process. This book represents the struggle of understanding some, but not all of a language and how certain words can be misunderstood.
