Something that always intrigues me when I’m driving is store signs. I always find myself looking at them, thinking about the font choices, the alignment, and the colors. I never get the chance to stop and really look at these signs, so this project presented the perfect opportunity to finally do so.

The biggest challenge for this project was figuring out exactly what data I wanted to analyze about the signs as a whole. I knew I wanted my main focus to be typography, but figuring out what specific parts of the type to look at was initially a challenge. Ultimately, I created an excel sheet, charting data about the type color, the type of font used, font style, font weight, alignment, and hierarchy levels. I created graphs and charts for each portion of the data I collected, and arranged them on the poster with all of the signs pictured in a grid formation. This way, the viewer is able to see each sign in its true, original form and compare this with the data as a whole.
