REACT
Experimental Book Design
2024

    SIZE:
    9 x 6 in.
    BINDING: Coptic stitch
REACT is an experimental book that explores the relationship between form and legibility. While the content follows traditional typesetting standards to ensure optimal readability, the book’s physical form intentionally disrupts that clarity. This tension between internal precision and external obstruction drives the concept.

The most extreme feature is the 3D-printed cover. A large, dome-like protrusion extends from the front cover and recedes on the back, physically preventing the book from being fully opened. The title, REACT, is extruded from the front and inverted into the back, echoing the dome shape. This intervention transforms the book from a neutral object into something that resists being passively read.

Inside, the layout maintains clear hierarchies and strong typographic structure, but the legibility is repeatedly undercut by circular cut-outs that remove portions of the text. These interruptions appear at unpredictable intervals, forcing the reader to confront what is missing. Reading becomes fragmented—not because of how the text is designed, but because of how the object behaves.
