Exploring what it means to be serious or solemn in the field of graphic design, this book features Paula Scher’s TED talk, “Graphic Design is Serious, Not Solemn.” As Scher quotes Russell Baker in her speech, a foreward is featured with his writing, “Why Being Serious is Hard.”

The layout of this book is an investigation itself into what it  means to be serious– or solemn. Each spread represents the duality of these terms: the right side is solemn while the left is serious.
