Angular Antiqua is a revival typeface based on Vojtêch Preissig’s font, Preissig Antiqua. Preissig was a Czech typographer, printmaker, designer, illustrator, painter and teacher. His aim in designing the original typeface was ‘to protest against the mechanical roundness and polish of ordinary fonts by making an attempt at impeccable proportions.’
The typeface is characterized as having no curves, only being made up of straight lines, angles, and wedges.
Angular Antiqua brings a modern take to Preissig’s original design, aiming to streamline the original characteristics, such as the serifs, line weights, contours, glyphs and symbols, and some letterforms themselves. The images displayed here are of the printed typeface specimen.
